Pet Health Insurance

Picture
Pet Health Insurance plans are generally "pay upfront and get reimbursed," so they can be used to reimburse for services at any hospital. They require the client to provide a bill showing as paid in full for reimbursement to occur. Some insurance plans will pay the hospital directly, but this must be arranged in advance. Our client service representatives are familiar with most companies and can help facilitate filing a claim.

FAQs
  1. When should I get pet health insurance? As soon as possible! Find the insurance that is right for you, BEFORE adopting your new pet. Many policies have waiting periods.
  2. Do they cover pre-exiting conditions? Not usually. This is why getting it early is best. Individual policies may vary.
  3. Can SNVH file my claim? Yes, for many companies. Please provide your client service representative with a copy of a claim form.
  4. Can I get pre-approval for procedures? Yes, many companies will do this. Just ask your company and let us know if you would like a pre-approval.

Questions to Ask When Comparing Pet Health Insurance

  1. Is there a waiting period? When does coverage begin? Is it different for illness versus accident?
  2. What is the deductible? Is that per incident, per condition, or per year?
  3. What counts as a pre-existing condition?
  4. Do chronic conditions become pre-existing when a new policy begins/renews?
  5. Is injury covered differently from illness?
  6. Do you reimburse me or do you pay the veterinarian directly?
  7. Does the plan offer a trial period?
  8. Does the plan use a benefits schedule?
  9. Are therapeutic or prescription diets covered?
  10. Are medications and supplements covered?
  11. Is acupuncture or physical therapy covered?

Beware of fake review sites!  Some insurance "help" sites will only display information from companies who "pay to play." They may not find the best insurance for YOU.
Even AAHA has made "partner" deals. Do your own research.
